"Angel" ticket
Rusty belle is a mostly acoustic group
based in a house in Amherst, MA. They started playing together in
the spring of 2006 and have
carved out a distinctive sound and a repertoire
too big for their fingers to hold. These are versatile musician who can
all play
several instruments and sing at the same
time. Matt Lorenz plays a Cuban-made classical guitar from the 1930s, Kate
Lorenz slams away at
tin cans and flower buckets, a washboard
and kettle, Jazer Giles on the accordion and a modified Rhodes electric
piano and Zak Trojano
does the drums, electric and acoustic
guitar, with some slick slidings with glass or steel. They utilize homemade
junk instruments
such as a medicine cabinet bass, a tin
can fiddle, and a steel can tom. The four wind up their vocal chords
to harmonize with alarming
integrity.

Lighthouse’s
hauntingly sparse instrumentation and wistfully literate lyrics are the
result of years of hard work and fine songwriting. The influences heard
are identifiable, but not prevalent. The emphasis is on the lyrics, which
are Chris O’Brien through and through. The music on the album is an amalgamation
of Tom Waits circa The Heart of Saturday Night, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens,
Leonard Cohen, and even Tom Petty’s Wildflowers era of songwriting. The
songs linger after they finish, like the last wisps of smoke from a fire.

Friday, Feb. 8th: Diana
Jones
(Vermont Festivals)
Adopted as an infant and raised
in New York, Diana left home at the age of 15 in search of her roots. Unlike
most of her friends, Diana was attracted to the music of Johnny Cash and
Patsy Cline, as well as contemporary artists Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton.
It wasn't until she was reunited with her birth family and the music of
the Eastern Tennessee hills some years later, that she discovered why that
music had always moved her.
"Diana's music is informed by
the themes that have run through her life…love, loss, and redemption…bringing
to mind both Emily Dickinson & Loretta Lynn in the same breath. From
the mournful lament of a dance hall girl, to the stomping melodic rant
of a young woman's burial instructions,
each of Diana's original songs
from her latest CD, My Remembrance of You, draws life from the rich cross
currents of old timey, country blues and mountain music."

Glier
(Vermont Festivals)
7:30 pm
$8 advance/$10 door
Seth Glier makes the journey from Boston to Bellows Falls for his first professional appearance in the area, having played at private gigs in the area in the past. This 18 year old phenom should not be missed.
Every so often an artist emerges on the scene as fully formed, with distinct vocals, a palpable presence and well-crafted lyrics where the songs truly belong to the singer. Seth Glier joins the rank of artists with such an emergence. This singer/songwriter/pianist, born and raised in rural Western Massachusetts, delivers an organic performance, rich in emotion and intellect. Glier's blend of smooth folk and bluesy soul is a sound all his own.
Sharing the stage with the likes of John Mayer, Shemekia Copeland and Martin Sexton, Glier's accomplishments far surpass his age. Seth's energy and passion conveyed during live shows leave listeners talking for days after his performance. "Glier takes his audience to a place that is unknown without his intoxicating groove," wrote Performer Magazine.
